January Yarn Tasting
Friday, January 10, 5-7 pm

Since winter is all about hats, we’ll make pom-poms at this month’s yarn tasting and demo some handy tools and notions, including The Knitting Barber Cords. No reservation needed.


Tunisian Crochet Basketweave Headband

Level: Beginner

This class will introduce you to the world of Tunisian crocheting and the textured fabrics it produces. In this workshop, you will learn the basic Tunisian single stitch and Tunisian purl stitch, as well as how to cast on and cast off. From there it is not difficult to expand to shawls, blankets, or other items.

Suggested yarn: 1 skein of bulky (at least 50 grams). We recommend Kraemer Perfection Chunky (120 yds / 100 grams) or Jagger Spun Bulky (103 yds / 100 grams) available in many colors in the store.

Needles: This project can be made on any standard crochet hook; ergonomic hooks will not work. We suggest 8.0 mm (size L) or bigger hook.

Introduction to Ravelry

Ravelry is a free online tool for crocheters, knitters, designers, spinners, weavers, and dyers. You can purchase patterns from designers (including our own KISSPatterns), store them in your library, track your progress on projects, maintain an inventory of your stash and tools, and more. In this class you will learn to set up your account, search for patterns using keywords and filters, purchase a (free) pattern, store it in your library, and download the pattern to your device.  You will need your own laptop or mobile device. Please fully charge your device before arriving. You will be able to log in to the WiFi in the shop.


Learn to Knit the Rolled Brim Hat

This class is perfect for absolute beginners! Cast on and you are off to making your first hat! Free pattern. Optional second class on February 1st at 2:00 to finish hat with double pointed needles.

Suggested yarn: Worsted (100 yards), bulky (100 yards), or super bulky (90 yards)

Needles: US 9 (worsted), US 10 or 10.5 (chunky), or 15 (super bulky) 16” circular and double-pointed


Decreasing with Double Pointed Needles

Learn how to decrease at the crown of a hat using double pointed needles. Bring a project ready for decreasing such as the Rolled Brim Hat.


Dancing Leaves Shawl

Saturday, February 1 and February 8, 10:30-12:30

Cost: $25 for 2 classes, $7 for pattern
Level: Intermediate

In this class you will learn German short rows and lace edging to create this stunning lightweight shawl. The crescent-shaped shawl has two leaf shapes and five leaf sizes that “dance” along its length. The crocheted picot edge adds a delicate finish.

Suggested yarn: 725 yards of light DK or fingering in the main color, 325 yards of DK or fingering in a contrasting variegated color

 Needles: Size US6 (4.0 mm) straight or 32” circular

Notions: Stitch marker and Size F (3.75mm) crochet hook

In this class you will learn the chain, single crochet, half-double crochet, and slip stitch stitches while creating a washcloth/dishcloth.

Suggested yarn: Cotton DK weight yarn such as Cestari Old Dominion Collection
